How to properly implement DNS?

Please tell me how to set up dns in the local network, where there is: a router (D-Link DIR-615), a server (Windows Server 2012 R2) [Lan], a computer [Lan] and a number of devices (laptops, smartphones) [Wi- Fi]. All this is a home network.
I want somehow to register, let's say hone .local in this network. Further, that in this zone there were domains of 2 and 3 levels. Let's say site.local, www.site.local, api.test.local, etc. In this case, the resource can be located on the server, on the computer or in the virtual machine on the server. And that it's all available within the network. As I understand it, it is necessary to somehow configure the DNS server on Windows Server?
But how is it generally done? What would the devices receive the necessary settings automatically so that the local DNS server does not interfere with the Internet (that is, external DNS)?
Thank you very much in advance!

turn on dns on WinServer, on all devices the dns server is registered exactly winserver (it is enough to register it on the router in the dhcp settings). In the dns console, write the site.local zone you need (a bad decision, it’s better to take a normal name like home.site.ru) and add A records there with the local network IPs you need

It's a bad idea to use it. If you want to use it inside your network, then use .loc.
If you have a Windows Server 2012 machine, I would remove DRI615 as the weakest link. It is not needed here, and if you need additional ports, then you would use a regular switch / switch / hub - call it what you want, or use DIR615 as a bridge (bridge mode).
As a result, you will need to raise the DHCP and DNS roles on Windows Server, all other devices will receive everything automatically. On a windows server, it will be necessary in this case to use two network ports.
If you do not want to change the scheme, then you raise dns and dhcp on the windows server.
At 615, remove dhcp and prescribe the DNS of your windows server.
