How to properly check ping and vps speed before renting:?

Interested in how to check, without contacting support.
Check the ping using the hoster's website, it's kind of stupid, it can be in another place.
I won’t know anything about vds until I order, therefore I can’t see ip.
How to be? Tests are not always fair, and neither are reviews..
What resources are there that can determine?

Find the autonomous system (AS) of the host and see what blocks of IP addresses are written to this autonomous system.
Check the ping to addresses from these blocks. If the hoster has several DCs in different cities, choose to check the address in such a way that routing to them goes through the city you need.

Try UNIXBench, but you need to take a test period from the provider, otherwise do not check.

You need to ping rather not from yourself, but from the cities of your users, In extreme cases, from your server, to the servers of providers in cities
