How to present the logo to the client?

I'm starting to work with logo design. On freelance sites, I noticed this: the customer creates an order and freelancers, after reading the attached brief, in response, throw off their logo options. But the customer can stupidly save the picture and that's it, that's the logo for free.

Present the result of the work beautifully, clearly and visually - this is if you answer specifically the question in the title.
And if we are talking specifically about the competitive format of work, then the matter is different. There are many venues for competitions and conditions may vary. If the customer reserves the amount and it is guaranteed by the site, then the winner will receive his own.
If there are no guarantees, then decide for yourself whether the game is worth the candle. Using watermarks or, as advised here, a degraded version is pointless in principle. The client, at a minimum, will ask to show it in normal quality, or, at the maximum, will simply ignore this low-quality layout - and now the time has definitely been wasted. Often a person on the site is just an intermediary between the designer and the director / directors, and the directors don’t care if someone there steals the layout or not, they still need to show the board of directors and their wife.
Understand the main thing: no one will steal a shitty design (from beginners), but a very good design will be stolen anyway , no matter how you defend yourself.
Afraid that your logo is so good that it will be stolen - just do not participate in contests. Look for other options.

The logo sources are usually in a vector that the designer keeps. Yes, the customer can take a picture, but he will not be able to scale the logo without losing its quality. After all, the logo does not only happen on websites, a vector is needed to print on various waste paper.

And you throw off a specially degraded version of the logo in a small size, it will not be possible to use it. As for schoolchildren and smoothing, there will be such "bad * you", well, there will be 1 out of 30 customers, it does not matter.

Well, what do you care about the rest?
The bottom does not appreciate its work. And the customer who, as you said, will save the pictures is not the customer, but some kind of garbage that needs to be bypassed, like the bottom that throws out its logo.
There is a portfolio, it should speak for itself. And there are clients.
And you're talking about some kind of kindergarten here.

And if a watermark is applied to the images, then the customer simply will not be able to use it anywhere)

There are only a few such fraudulent customers, and they very quickly receive bad karma from performers and self-destruct) Basically, everyone works honestly and pays for the work done)
