How to organize video viewing on a chromebook through a home local network?

I recently purchased an Acer C720p Chromebook. I am satisfied with everything: case, performance, operating time, choice of programs. But there is one point: I'm used to watching videos (movies, TV shows, etc.) through the local network of my home computer.
Having searched in the Internet, I found two options for solving problems so far:
1. Home media server.
2. Installing Ubuntu on a chromebook as a second system.
Has anyone experienced this? What do you advise? Are there any other options?

After all the trial and error, I settled on Ubuntu, installed it through Chrubuntu. Everything goes, everything plays. A home media server is still more suitable for TVs.
