How to organize the update of files while maintaining the previous version?

Good day!
There are several servers running Windows Server versions 2012 R2 and 2008 R2 that are domain controllers. Each of them has a script that is executed when users log in to the system at their workplaces. Scripts do not differ from each other.
The question is how best to organize automatic updating of this file (script.js) on each domain controller from another remote server, on which a new version of this file is uploaded, while it is necessary to save previous versions (to a file called script - YYYYMMDD.js , in the same folder). It is desirable to check the script update with a certain frequency (once an hour, for example).
I considered options for using solutions such as Puppet or Chef, but they seemed too redundant to me (as if we were shooting sparrows from a cannon). The idea of writing my own solution also came to my mind, but was put aside as too laborious. Maybe someone already solved a similar problem and can push in the right direction?

Gentlemen, you misunderstood the essence of the question.
Each server is a Domain Controller (let's name it SERVER-DC), it has a NETLOGON folder with a script.js script that is executed when users log on to computers in the domain.
There are several such servers, they are located in different organizations.
There is also another SERVER-UPD server, on which an updated version of the script.js script is periodically uploaded, and in each organization it is necessary to update the script.js on SERVER-DC by downloading it from SERVER-UPD, which, for example, is located in the cloud.
