How to monitor basic VPS metrics on Ubuntu 16.04?

Tell me how to monitor the server, remove the main parameters, CPU usage, network interfaces, etc.? With sending events it is better in telegrams or at least by mail. To be aware of all events in general.

Now there is Webmin, but it's not quite the same. Zabbix is too clumsy for one modest server, Cati is kind of dull.

munin + self-written plugins, all characteristics are removed,
possible disadvantages:
does not work (for me, could not configure) email notification for alerts
update every 5 minutes, but realtime is not needed yet
pluses:
write your own plugin and get what you want
does not load the system
