How to improve knowledge of linux? What is optimal?

I think in general the initial knowledge is not bad - but I would like to pull up such things as user commands:
grep and tmux, what for? what to read?
What commands are needed? I do not know what to use - it is not clear what to study.

If you need commands, go through ABSG ( in Russian ).
In general, read man's and --help's for programs.

Try installing Arch linux, for safety first in Virtualbox. Installing with half a kick obviously will not work, you will have to read the Arch wiki and the forum. Following will come the understanding of some basic things, and at the same time remember the basic console commands. You can read Evi Nemeth's Unix and Linux System Administrator's Guide. There is also a good magazine "Linux Format".

First, the pocket guide to commands that was already suggested here - a very entertaining read!
And secondly, just solve current problems. Do everything through the console - update the system, browse directories, edit conf files in vim. What is remembered is what you regularly use - this phrase has already been repeated in a thousand ways, but it's true.
