How to measure UTP 5e 100BASE TX line length on linux?
Good day.
I was interested in the question, is there any software for linux with which you can measure the length of a directly connected link 100 FastEthernet UTP 5e 100BASE TX.
I know that this can be done with testers like Fluke DSP 4x00

This can only be done with a special iron - a
reflectometer. A standard network card is not such an iron.
This check can be performed using some Cisco switches, such as Catalyst 2960:
Wait 20 seconds
Get response:
Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Gi0/2 ..100M..Pair A ... 2 .. +/- 10 meters ...Pair A ..... Open
.........................Pair B ... 12 ..+/- 10 meters ..Pair B ..... Normal
.........................Pair C ... 12 ..+/- 10 meters ..Pair C .... Normal
.........................Pair D ... 12 ..+/- 10 meters ..Pair D .... Normal
There is no pure software. Your hardware (network card, router) should be able to do this, then they already have either an option or software.
Similar functionality is often found on Cisco routers. But the accuracy there is not too great, within a few meters it can easily be mistaken, especially if there are pickups near the cable.
On some motherboards, a cable tester on the built-in network card is available in the BIOS.
