This option is not suitable, since you need the same thumbnail sizes for all products. At the same time, if you enable hard cropping in the WooCommerce settings, you get the following:

Is it possible to make the image shrink to the size of a square without cropping it and center it there?
PS - editing each photo is not an option, since there are a huge number of goods and there is no photographer of our own, we get photos from different sources.

You can connect https://github.com/bfintal/bfi_thumb and display c parameter crop=false through it , then the larger side will shrink to the specified size, and the smaller side will not crop, there will only be resize
