How to make Ubuntu as light as possible?

In continuation to this question: What to install on the DNS AirTab W100g tablet?
It turned out to still put Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS on the tablet, but everything is wildly slow.
Demolished the unit, put the gnome. Since there is nothing good to get out of it (tablet), I decided to make a reader out of it. I’ll figure out how to install CoolReader, but here’s what you can remove without harm and at the same time increase performance at least a little.
I don’t want to install another distro, since there is a very big problem with the drivers.
Thank you!

Put Windows on it.
With its processor and RAM, as well as problems with drivers in Linux, you will make the most of it as a reader on Linux.

Try installing Xubuntu core. Very minimalist build https://unit193.net/xubuntu/core/
