Such highlights are made with a regular brush of the corresponding color on a new layer in the Screen blending mode (in the Russian version of Ps - screen).

Regular gradient with light overlay. The brush draws crooked, and the gradient will make the highlight natural. In these photos, the highlight definitely reminds me of a Yellow-Red-Blue gradient overlay.
