How to make money on the algorithm?
Hello
Let there be some "global" algorithms, like recognition of automobile state. numbers or video encoding, which in their implementation are ready to bring "tangible" benefits. There is even a series about the video compression algorithm, i.e. it is a product that can be sold. But even then, there are two options: to sell in the bud or to make the product yourself and sell it ready.
But what about algorithms whose execution leads to a "better" result (faster, more accurate, etc.) compared to existing solutions, but these are "local" algorithms, for example, the square root algorithm, the numerical differentiation algorithm. What to do with these algorithms? Can you earn money on them? Does anyone buy them, are there ways to sell them?
Through patenting? But, most likely it can be a couple of lines of code or a couple of
mathematical
formulas
. But a "good" binarization algorithm is useful in solving many computer vision problems, and this is already a potential commercialization.
And you've done binarization and you don't want to fit it to anything. You just want to make money from it. How to do it?
UPD 2: <- Solution!
VZVZ comments that "Locals" are sold as libraries. Which seems like a good idea.
And the question arises, how many tasks should be solved in the library then (and apparently from one area)? And what if one task is solved?
UPD 3:
Puma Thailand offered through active sales, mailing letters, to interest and sell the algorithm to companies. Has anyone had such an experience?

Selling the algorithm is unlikely. But you can try to make yourself a name on this. Patents, publications in specialized publications, contributions to open source projects, reports at conferences. You will develop connections, they will begin to recognize you and, possibly, will be invited to some interesting project. In any case, this is how I see it.
No way. Welcome to the market. Either sell the finished product or sell yourself.
All schoolchildren have already written such small algorithms, I thought you were talking about some serious algorithms, we are talking about a bunch of unsolved problems in the algorithmic world, where very good algorithms are needed for them and it’s easy to make money.
And to believe that you wrote an algorithm in three lines and every student has not yet written it is stupid.
Patent the algorithm, just keep in mind that not all countries recognize such a patent. then wait until you are asked to sell a patent, or troll everyone left and right in an American court, but this is more a way to spend than earn
