Patents in your case only work well in countries with Anglo-Saxon law. If you have money for lawyers, of course.
This is what patent trolls use with might and main. As a rule, they are lawyers, so the cost of trials for patent trolls is not high.
In countries with continental legislation (which include all of Europe except the UK and those countries where many people speak Russian, that is, the former USSR) - you need to present something unique for patenting.
But such things as "stupidly stole everything including the design" are just fine protected in the continental legislation.
The trouble is that as soon as you start downloading the rights, the design will quickly change.
You can ensure uniqueness by the fact that you quickly started and have already gained an audience that will promote you.
You can build an application on a certain function that is available only to you.
For example, RBC - if you don’t know, then in Ru-Net it is a rather powerful investor, it’s definitely in the top five, and maybe in the top three - he started by stupidly selling the dollar to everyone, this was in those days when The Central Bank did not publish the dollar rate, and those who learned this rate earlier could have piled up. It was to such people that RBC sold this valuable information (the founders of RBC are central bankers, they used insider information)
For example, if you want to make an application for selling car tickets, then you need to negotiate with bus stations by installing the server part of your software.
Then, starting from the 10th bus station in your region, you are practically a monopolist. And it will be extremely difficult for competitors to push you out of the market. Bus stations won't need a second, third, etc. server software from competitors.
Etc.
That is a game of advance. And work with a certain uniqueness that is difficult for others to get - it guarantees you more than patents.

It can't be banned.
It is possible to make your application so good and so popular that it is not profitable for others to create the same. An example is Facebook. VK is still popular in Russia, but will not be able to compete with FB outside the Russian-speaking audience.
Competition is good.

No, the idea is not patented. Anyone can redraw art, compose, program and release an analogue. You can win a user only by quality.
