How to make a subscription for an android application?

This is my first time making an Android app. I don't want to sell the app, but I would like to recoup its development. Therefore, there is a desire to make a subscription in order to remove ads. I saw in some application such a thing. Ads are shown, but if you subscribe (directly from the application) for a month or a year, the ads will disappear.
How is this business organized? I found on the android website only information about banner ads, but nothing more. Did you search badly or is there some trick?
