How to make a stroke with an outer indent?

Good day. I have shape layers. I create a new layer, copy a vector mask onto it, to apply a stroke along the path with a preset brush. But there are several problems: 1) the stroke of the contour is carried out inside the contour; 2) did not find the opportunity to adjust the indentation of the stroke from the outline.
Can you please tell me how to make the outer stroke of the path with a brush with an indent (for example 16px)?
