How to make a menu bar for all activities?

Good afternoon. Novice developer. I'm creating a new android application and using the standard application template - Navigation Drawer Activity. A lot where it is described that when you click on a menu item, a fragment opens. But if you make not a fragment but an activity, then the curtain is no longer displayed on it. The question is how to make the curtain for all activities. Well, or tell me how to make a transition from a fragment to an activity by pressing a button.
