I want to put OSX back on my Macbook (2009) but its DVD drive has died. Are there any other options?

If you have a flash drive/external drive >4GB and another Mac, then using Disk Utility you can clone the DVD (or dmg/iso with the system if there is no DVD) to the partition of this drive/drive. Then plug it into your Macbook and turn it on while holding down the Alt key to select the boot disk.

habrahabr.ru/blogs/hardware/116799/ - universal for any occasion, but a little expensive, plus problems with availability.

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro, when I changed the screw, I installed Mac OS X 10.6 from an 8GB SD card (there was no disk with me).
The main thing is to break it using the GUID partition table and not the MBR.
