How to increase the blinking time of the LED for missed calls/messages?

On my HTC Incredible S, the LED stops flashing 5 minutes after a missed call.
This time is not configurable. Accordingly, if you have left the phone for at least 10 minutes, then you have to turn on the screen to find out if there are any missed calls/messages.
I assumed that this was a bug of android 2.3.5, but yesterday an update to 4.0.4 came, the problem remained. It is possible that this is intended, but the benefit is doubtful.
Who solved the problem of unnoticed calls in time? Ideally, I would like a solution without root.
