=VALUE(LEFT(A1;SEARCH(" ";A1)-1))>1200

It is not entirely correct to store both the value and the unit of measure in a cell. For example, you can specify the currency format and "p." in the cell format with a number. will be set automatically. But it won't affect the calculations.
