How to identify an omnivorous dvd player

Recently, my father set me the following combat task: to find out what characteristics determine the “omnivorousness” of a DVD player, so that he has something to focus on when buying. As for reading videos of various formats, everything is clear here, you just need to check the list.

I want to ask you this: what determines the ability to read old, scratched discs? What letters in the data sheet should be paid attention to in order to find out the measure of this ability?

If the task is for the player to read scratched discs, then this does not entirely depend on the player, but rather on the drive. If you had chosen a drive to your computer, then you could have found it, otherwise you could only burn a few discs, “spoil” them in various ways and go to the store.
Although what does not depend on the drive is the number of read attempts if it was not possible to read the data immediately. Unfortunately, this is not mentioned in the instructions. You can try to "feed" a completely dead disc to different players and see how long they try to read it. I won’t say that the longer the better, but indirectly this may mean that he tries many times, which is good.

What letters in the data sheet you need to pay attention to

None. It's not there.
Brand + reviews. Look like that's it.

I don’t know an explicit characteristic of omnivorousness (in relation to the physical state of the disks), but from personal experience - don’t take super duper fancy units like denon, pioneer and others like them - there is a very high probability that slightly worn disks will read badly, and vice versa, a non-name player from the Middle Kingdom will be able to read a seemingly "killed" disc. If we talk about specific firms, I liked BBK the most.
ps The above is not my fabrications and personal experience.
pps An indirect sign of omnivorousness is easy reading of RW disks. I inserted a lung in the sense and it started up, and not for another minute rustled puffed up and finally squeezed it out.

I made a DVD disc with different movies in different codecs and with different types of subtitles.
I went to a store like Eldorado, found a salesman, told him that I wanted to buy an omnivorous player and showed him the DVD for testing. As a result, in 30 minutes we found a budget omnivorous player.
It was in 2009 :)
