How to identify an equivalent for ECC UDIMM DDR4 RAM?
Good afternoon!
There is a DELL workstation (service tag BG6T0Y2) with the following components:
16 GB DDR4, 2 x 8 GB, UDIMM, ECC with part number D715X / Processor Intel Xeon E-2186G
Task : add another 8GB RAM bar. I can’t understand which one is suitable: either a regular desktop DIMM (because the original UDIMM and this seems to mean that it is without error correction) Or
you need to choose a server one, because ECC is written in the name of the original one (but, damn it, it seems to be without error correction errors, why write?) Memory is no longer sold with the same part number.
And it also happens that not all modules are suitable, for example, I saw that a laptop with ddr3 did not start with dual-rank memory, but worked with peer-to-peer.
It is a pity that it is not always possible, as on the website of the motherboard manufacturer: open a list of officially supported RAM and select the appropriate one.
How do I understand the criteria for choosing a memory analog? Thanks in advance!
