Is the service tag on a Dell laptop unique or is it just a model designation? That is, is it possible to identify a stolen laptop by this label?

Yes it is. Another express service code.
On the other hand, there are utilities that can be used to change them, but getting such utilities is usually not a trivial task.

Hmm, require the seller's passport if handy. Or spend everything on the site if Ebay.
