How to get started in Game Dev?
I am at a crossroads. I am being driven to take the USE in Mathematics, the Russian language and, possibly, Informatics. I'm 17 years old. I am in my third year of "Commerce (by industry). I went for it because of the circumstances with moving to a new place. I only finished 9 classes. At school and college they only teach that" programming in Exsel ", they didn’t even stutter about real programming languages Ahead of
the university, I'm going to go to the course "Information Technology and ICT", but have not decided yet. Is it worth going to university with my already forgotten knowledge in Computer Science?
As for Game Dev's account, based on all of the above, I don't understand where exactly to start. I spend my evenings playing games, but I want to create something of my own. There is an idea, there is an idea, there is a concept, but the price of this is a broken penny (for sure). Every day I see in my thoughts moments from my alleged creation. But where to start? I like the theme of space and sci-fi.
It seems that I want to connect my life with the creation of games, but with my knowledge ... Seeing what is in the exam, I was afraid that if this is in the exam, then what will happen next?
A couple of years ago I was fond of creating simple maps in the Warcraft 3 map editor, I know how to delve into game configs a little, I know HTML, CSS.
I live in a small town near Murmansk, and there are no courses for beginner programmers or anything related to this.
I'm confused about all this. Maybe smart people can help a little. You are welcome. With my low self-esteem, I'm going to put myself in a coffin at this rate.

I have already taught many people how to make games. And it's not that hard at all. Get step by step instructions:
Step 0) Forget about all these unity-schmunity, anrial engine and other engines. For your first sci-fi project, you definitely won't need them to build your self-esteem and quickly complete a sci-fi project. You will just waste time, so precious before entering a university.
Step 1) Discover the text game genre. Do not rush to beat your head on the table with a howl. This is exactly the genre in which you can realize your idea yourself, without involving all these hundreds of skills in 3D modeling, computer graphics, sound engineering, etc. etc., which, by the way, you don’t have yet. “Use what is at hand and do not look for another!” (F. Vogt). I recommend starting your acquaintance with this genre with this game: Then look at other games from this repository. The code of any of these games can be downloaded by clicking the "Download" link and see how it's done.
Step 2) To create a game you will need an offline player for your operating system. https://instead3.syscall.ru/(That's right, this engine works not only online, but also on android, these your Linuxes, Windows, Macos, bzdyah, nut and grandmother's iron iron.) In addition, you will need a programmer's text editor - there is complete expanse, Notepad ++, Geany, or any other, as long as it displays line numbers, and there is Lua syntax highlighting . (Don't be scared, no one is forcing you to learn another programming language, it's enough to get acquainted with its basics in 15 minutes )
Step 3) Read the documentation in Russian.
Step 4) Actually write the game.
The engine has an active community in telegram https://t.me/insteadtalk and discord https://discord.gg/mxPNdYT
What's the question? Go to a university, but keep in mind that if the university is in Murmansk, it may be far from the real requirements. In the course of your studies, learn to program, and not only games, then you will figure out if you need this industry.
PS Are you serious, today's exam is difficult ???
Pull yourself together, it's not difficult at all.
Another. "I can't do anything! So I'll go to gamedev!". Do you know that full-cycle projects are done by 70-100 people for 2.5-3 years? And they are not 20 years old. The average age is 30-35 years. These are already accomplished specialists with 5-10 years of experience. Gamedev is not a web. Unit tests will not help you debug rendering or logic here. Go study better. The brains from the Internet and overconsumption completely melted.
Write something like serialization-deserialization of Red-Bleck-tree.
Try C++ with SFML or Python with PyGame. Whether you will seriously engage in game development, no one knows. Try it, like it, move on. A programming language is a tool. Build works with a lot of tools. The main thing is to start, go every day towards your goal and complete the project. To have something to show.
Driving yourself into a coffin is not the best idea , overcome your low self-esteem)
I don’t know if it’s relevant, but try python 3 with pygame , the python language itself is not difficult, you can figure it out in just a week, even if you are just starting, but there are lessons and a couple of books on the pygame library.
If you like it, then try more complex languages like c ++ / c # to develop, for example, on some Unity or Unreal engine
In unity, even one can create something more or less sane
