How to get rid of the "tails" of the virtual machine?

There is Windows 8. I want to install Win7 on a virtual machine for email firmware. books. Question: Will it be possible to format a virtual hard drive and then connect it to another partition? The partition will be in NTFS. And yet - the RAM is allocated only when the machine is started, and is released when it is turned off?

A virtual disk is just a big file with vmdk img extension and so on. If it is not needed, it can simply be removed. I didn’t understand the merging with other sections, theoretically it can be merged through a symlink, but the crutch will be the same.

there are 2 types of memory. dynamic and dedicated. but both that and that ... when the machine is turned off, it is released. this time! it's not entirely clear what's going on with the partitions ... and what hypervisors are used. it's two. =)

When you turn off the virtual machine, everything merges onto the disk and the RAM is not consumed.
It will be possible to format the disk and it will be possible to detach it. Everything depends on the virtualizer.
