How to get rid of forced font smoothing in Google Chrome?
After the next update, Chrome arranged an unpleasant surprise - it turned on some kind of, apparently, its own font smoothing (ClearType is disabled in the system), but not everywhere, but somehow very selectively. It seems to affect text that is both:
- bold
&&
- is a link || designed in some special style (for example, translucent - downvoted comments on Habré, the inscription "I like" VKontakte)
Annoying for two reasons: the actual rejection of this anti-aliasing (I'm not a big fan of ClearType) and its selectivity. As a result of selectivity, for example, when you hover the mouse over such a translucent text, it “manifests” completely and at that moment loses its anti-aliasing (and regains it when the mouse is moved away) - such a wink is very nerve-wracking.
I searched the Chrome settings, either I'm blind, or is it hidden somewhere very deep? It doesn't show up in any other app.

You need to enable the "Disable Windows DirectWrite" option on the chrome://flags/ page
It worked for me.
What's more, that black background under pictures in the latest Firefox is really a problem
Just now I figured it out - Chrome forcibly smoothes the font if transparency is set to it, even opacity 0.9999
It can be considered a bug, it can be a feature.
