Of the major Russian gaming companies, I know 1C and Mail.ru.
Programmers are in demand for different ones: Java, C ++, C #, Haxe, Lua, JS after all. It all depends on which studio works on which game engine (Unity, Unreal, something self-written) and for which platforms it releases. Again, it depends on what you will / want to write: server, client, graphics, UI.
Personally, I got into gamedev from layout designers :)
