Are artist skills required in game development?

Good afternoon, dear Khabrovites! Recently, I have become interested in game development, but in a fairly plentiful number of articles reference is made to the skills of the artist, and I am an artist from the word bad, and the question is: are these skills really needed, or are there areas in gamedev where programming skills are required ? To make it easier to help me choose a direction, here is a description of my skills (besides those required on the web): C++ Basics Silent python - thought about switching to django, studied the basics, wrote a couple of my simple bicycles. Heard about pyGame - should I focus on it? Is it up to date? I'm also interested in the server part of online game development, am I too crazy to begin with? Maybe you need to start with something simpler?
I am writing, perhaps with a rather stupid question, which is voiced in the title.
The fact is that I have been doing web development for 5 years. I write (yes, I think you guessed it) in PHP, in fact, 5 years is not so little, but frankly, not so much. There were a bunch of different projects of varying degrees of complexity, and slowly the interest in developing web applications began to fall. The love for the development itself remained, but it all turned into just a way to make money. Perhaps this is normal, but apparently I am such a person, and I always need an interesting job, and on the web, all applications repeat the functionality of each other by 75 percent at least :)
Similarly, with Ruby, I felt a little, made a bicycle, but nowhere did I see his participation in game development.
They expect a variety of answers from you, up to: “yes, you’re disabled, since you ask such questions! It’s simple, study this and that!”, or “yes, you haven’t studied the web in 5 years, there’s still a lot of interesting things around! Yes, he liked the games..." :)
In general, I am currently standing at a certain crossroads, and I ask you, dear colleagues of the council. Especially valuable will be the experience of developers who have gone to game development from webdev, ideally if you are the same thin artists as I am :) Thank you all in advance!

Smooth transition from web programming to game development for android.
When I started it seemed that it would be hard to learn a new platform, JAVA. But in reality it turned out that it's hard to come up with an interesting game and draw characters or gui beautifully and harmoniously.
So the ability to draw will come in handy if there is no familiar designer.

Not everyone can sit on all the chairs at once.
It is better to order drawing from those who are actively involved in this. On some www.deviantart.com and other analogues full of advanced and novice artists, you can look for those who will do well and inexpensively, and those who will do it more or less just for being mentioned in the list of developers, but most likely much better, than you.
Being able to program and draw is usually required in simple indie projects in which the whole team is 1-3 people.
Just learn how to draw - you can try it, spend a few weeks, watch YouTube for beginners, try it - if you have talent, you will understand it. If there is no talent, then acquiring drawing skills from scratch is a waste of time. Maybe it would be better to stop at pure programming?

If there is no budget, and you want to turn your fantasies into reality 100%, then I think yes, definitely. I don’t know how it is with you, but it would be important for me to see the game the way I intended, not only in the code, but also in the visual component. And with third-party artists (especially if remotely) you can choose from a maximum of several options, and it will be very cool if one of them exceeds your expectations.
In general, I agree with the rest of the commentators, especially since this is rather a personal matter for everyone.

Tovarisch! Everyone needs an interesting job, especially if it is highly paid.
And as for the artist, personal opinion and just a summary impression after Internet analytics - the artist and his specialization is a purely specific area. To develop games (for good games, including including all kinds of technologies and frameworks), you need ideological people, each tailored to their own: algorithms, artificial intelligence, mathematics, graphics, artistic creativity, usability, promotion, luring players to the project, coding and etc.
Each of the presented, if he is really a pro in his field, then this is buzzing. You don't need to spray and it's pointless. So just think about what you like best! Go there and get oriented!

I think that a programmer should be able to draw at least a little bit. If you are going to be in a team of several people (for example, you are a programmer, an artist, or other combinations), and you will be an ideological inspirer, then you need to convey the idea to the artist or game designer, and show exactly what you want. I personally draw badly, but sometimes I have to draw something in order to simply explain my concept, it doesn’t have to be beautiful, the main thing is that it be clear.

From a programmer, such skills are not required.
In addition, artists get fewer programmers, a maximum of 100tr is offered to artists on hh.ru (and 200 to programmers).
