How to forward 3G modem in Vmware VM?

Hi all!
There was a need to forward the HUAWEI E169 modem (MTS connection) to the virtual machine as a GSM modem for Asterisk.
Windows 7 host machine -> Vmware Workstation -> Ubuntu (Asterisk)

If you install Ubuntu on hardware - HUAWEI E169 is defined as needed, like a GSM modem and a bunch of composite devices (disk and card reader), but if you forward it to a virtual machine, it is forwarded exactly which is not needed.

I tried to switch it to "only modem" mode via CLI
AT^U2DIAG=0
but nothing really changed.
Please share your experience if you have done this before.

@Spetros

So it's USB. Entire USB device and forward.

After searching a little, I found another solution, which is to forward not the device itself, but only the com port.

Although the instruction is for VB, I'm sure you can implement it on VMware.
