How to format a real flash drive in VMWare Player?

VMWare Player, free version (latest).
I want to burn a bootable flash drive, but it's not even formatted from there ...
More precisely, the virtual Windows starts formatting but does not complete it to the end :-(
The flash drive is working, USB 3.0 In the player, by the way, only 2.0 for some reason
