How to force Windows 7 to boot from an external HDD?

Hello.
Windows 7 is installed on the hard drive. The
hard drive is inserted into the disc box and connected to the computer.
When booting from a USB (from an external drive), Windows crashes into a BSOD on boot.
Exactly the same story if you boot via eSATA.
Maybe someone knows how to start Windows from an external USB / eSATA drive?

An external HDD is essentially the same flash drive, but something might work out. The answer above is helpful.
