How to fix the cause of video problems on linux?

I'm switching from win 10 to mint 19. I have an MSI nVidia GeForce GT 730 video card (N730-2GD3V2, 2GB, DDR3) to which two monitors are connected, the main one via hdmi with a resolution of 2560 × 1440, the second 1366x768.
The problems started with the fact that there is no necessary resolution available for selection. I managed to add what I needed via xrandr, but only in conjunction with a free driver, it did not work with the nvidia driver. But it still works not without problems, when you first select a new resolution for a session, the second monitor falls off, and starts working only after you set a different resolution, and then again a new one.
At the same time, in comparison with Windows, it is felt that the smoothness of transitions, animation, scrolling has become much lower, when watching a video, image jerks are noticeable.
The question is whether it is possible to correct the situation with some settings or the problem is solved only by replacing the video card with a better one. And if the second, then how to understand which piece of iron will be enough, is it normally supported by linux, and can I generally set the required resolution? For example, what about this MSI GeForce GT 1030 1265MHz PCI-E 3.0 2048MB 6008MHz 64 bit?
