How to fix jerky video (VirtualDub, x264vfw)

Started experimenting with Time-Lapse. I take frames with an interval, process them, insert them into VirtualDub (BMP set), select the x264vfw codec, set the bitrate to 5000 kbps (one pass). So, if the Medium preset is on, then everything seems to be fine (although the quality leaves much to be desired), but if you set at least Slow, then jerks appear when playing. I fiddled with the settings all day, but the jerks could not be removed. Moreover, jerks sometimes appear in the video converted with the Medium preset, but quite rarely.
I tried to upload a “twitching” video to Vimeo, jerks remain (despite the fact that the video is recoded by the service).

Sample video (720p, 5.79 mb):
dl.dropbox.com/u/13147418/temp/00002.avi
The video itself is not good, but since the movement of the stars is uniform, jerks are clearly visible.

Prompt, in what there can be a business.

x264vfw is terrible in itself and is strongly condemned by x264 developers. Take just x264 c Avisynth (load a series of images via ImageSource). Encode like this:
x264 --crf 18 --preset veryslow --tune film --output out.mp4 input.avs
