How to fix HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found?

When switching to HTTPS, links to articles began to respond with the error "HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable." The server is running on ISS. There is an assumption that web.config needs to be corrected. But how?
