How to find and save updated virtual machine files?

The task is this:
1. Run the android image in virtualbox.
2. Perform some actions on the emulator.
3. Determine which files have changed / updated in the android file system and save them separately.
How can this be done? How to access the entire file system of a virtual machine image, and then also find updated (compared to the original) files?
