How to find a remote job in machine learning?
interested in international exchanges. Freelance and remote permanent work.
Now I monitor odesk, freelancer, elance. But the exhaust is weak.
On the Kaggle forums, job postings are very rare.

I've been working as a (remote) ML consultant for quite some time now. It's possible, just try it.
Where to look, my experience:
- I found the first customer on odesk
- the second one - in the 'who is hiring' thread on hackernews, the
rest came from recommendations
A few tricks:
- make a free simple prototype. A simple working classifier/regression without optimizations can be done in a couple of hours. And for the client, this will be 50-70% of the solution to the problem.
- send your resume even to places where they don't think about freelancing or remote work. If you're good at your job, they don't care where you are.
- learn English. Sometimes it's more important than your core skills in ML.
Advantages of remote work:
- when compared with our offices (mail.ru, yandex), you can get a much higher salary.
- all the customers with whom I worked arranged free on-site trips for me. For example, this is how I visited the States, Ireland, Serbia, Austria
- they are less hammered with problems that are not related to ML
Cons:
- if you are the only specialist in the team, there is often no one to discuss current tasks with. If you don't keep learning, you will begin to degrade.
- more difficult communication. Difference in time. But these are common remote problems.

pps I get asked this question so often that I start thinking about creating a specialized service for finding remote data scientists
you can start from here and further, there are a lot of tasks - https://company.yandex.ru/job/vacancies/dev_search... . If you need a narrow specialization, then you have nothing to do in industrial programming, but a direct road to institutes.
To work in the direction of Data Science, you need to get a permanent job. Perhaps (this is rare) the company will hire you for a permanent job remotely. But such offers are extremely rare. When looking for a job, I would advise you to monitor
hh.ru
devsday.ru
moikrug.ru
as well as specialized forums and websites. Participate in contests and hackathons. Go to events dedicated to data science, big data, machine learning. I think you will find work in this direction quickly, given the demand for specialists in this field. But freelancing in data science is not an option at all.
