Are you a beginner web designer and coder? Design your portfolio site in this case. Wix.com doesn't make you look professional.

With the most basic level (and most importantly, without experience working with customers), you are unlikely to be able to work on your own. Go to a small studio, they know how to benefit from your work.
Call, offer and arrange a meeting. And be prepared to be rejected, there's nothing wrong with that.
And then, having accumulated experience and a portfolio, you can move on.

Now many customers want to receive turnkey projects. For example, a turnkey landing (text + design + layout).
If you are not friends with selling texts, I recommend finding a copywriter and working in tandem. He writes the text. and you do the design and layout.
You both benefit from this. He will be able to apply for turnkey projects and so will you. You will attract customers to each other. This is a great option. This is how I worked with a designer when I was just a copywriter.

You already decide whether you are a layout designer or a designer. The combination of these two professions makes sense if you want to do layouts + layout for sale for foreign exchanges, like Theme Forest , for example .
In other situations, it will only hinder you. Each of these areas, such as design and layout, is very deep in itself and in each one can specialize indefinitely. For example, there was a recent topic: How to teach web design?
And to be honest, all my good designers I know know almost nothing about layout, and all the layout designers I know, although they are proficient in Photoshop, do not really rummage around in design)
