How to fill in CorelDRAW 2017?

I select the fill tool, set the type to "solid", color, click on the object - and nothing.
I tried to set the fill in the properties of the object - to no avail.
The circuit is closed.
How to fill an object?

It is possible that the element you are trying to fill - a group of several - needs to "ungroup" the group to work with one of them.
