How to extract left and right channel from mp3 file?

Hello.
There is a task to analyze an mp3 file in real time, parse it into the right and left signals and analyze them by frequency.
I have never worked with sound at a low level before and have little idea from which side I will approach the task, thanks in advance for any solutions.
