How to evaluate your ability in designing user interfaces?

Good afternoon. Is there any reasonable way to evaluate your ability in user interface design, other than developing a finished model for a particular system?

I will describe the situation, so that it might be easier for you to understand the position in which I am.

For a very long time I have been interested in the topic of user interfaces, the history and causes of one or another. I feel that user interfaces are closer to me than any other areas related to IT. I re-read a lot of information on this subject, mostly not ordered, and it is not possible to call such a store of knowledge "Education". Partially worked with web design, delved into the essence of programming, developed in the visual arts, searched for causes, traced consequences, but again, all knowledge is not standardized and it is not possible to classify them. I feel in myself the ability to make the world better and more comfortable, to give people the opportunity to use the surrounding space more conveniently. This, one way or another, is reflected in any activity that I do, and it is often associated with trivial physical labor, in the past, a cable installer, in the present - a novice FOCL engineer. Ideas come in a continuous stream, concerning everything that surrounds me. Often it is possible to optimize current workflows using everything that comes to hand. For a long time, there is a great desire to self-actualize in something more serious, and that's the trouble. In fact, I cannot get an education in the field of "User Interface Designer", if only because there are no educational institutions for such a profile in my country. For a number of reasons, I am in no hurry to leave my homeland, but I want to do what I love. However, the question is how? How to determine the level of your knowledge in Interface Design in order to be able to present something to a potential employer? In most cases, under the vacancies "Interface Designer" there is a meaning, for example "

Question : Please advise where to start and what to finish in order to be able to show evidence of your abilities in this direction? What are the criteria for evaluating a good interface designer? How to streamline and consolidate knowledge in the field of interaction design, so that there is an opportunity to professionally realize oneself in this direction?

ps If there is any literature that you consider necessary, or even obligatory for a person who wants to develop in this direction, please leave a name.

Thank you for your attention. I look forward to an answer.

I think it will be useful to find a dozen sites (if you specialize in the web), and for each of them present 1-2 pages of alterations (of course, not made up, but molded in some suitable software). Stuff all the results that you think are successful in your portfolio, and go in search of employers.
