How to draw a dollar from scratch?

If I do it with the '$' symbol of the desired color and font, then I won't be able to edit the outline even a little. How to draw it, exactly the 'S' part, what would it turn out exactly? Curvature or pen? Maybe I missed something, but it does not work exactly. Push me in the right direction ;)

You can in circles, but why? Print in font, convert to curves and edit as you like.
