How to double the bit depth of linux?

The machine is running 32 bit ubuntu 16.04. The axis was put many years ago and updated.
Now there is a need to run applications that have only a 64-bit version.
It is not sporting to completely rearrange the system. I want to update only the core and the minimum harness. Leave the rest at 32 bit. In addition to jokes about a trolleybus from a loaf, how can this be done?

Technically, you can start booting from a 64-bit kernel, you can go on and on with other garbage.
But it doesn't have to be.
apt-clone to clone all installed packages, save /home and /etc, see what else we have there (DBMS databases, etc.). And then a clean system, apt-clone to restore the packages and put everything back in place.

It's unsportsmanlike to rearrange Windows, but there shouldn't be any problems with Linux, unless, of course, you have set any of the sorts using the "configure-make-install" method.
