How to display Ditto data grouped by date?

Data is selected from the catalog via Ditto.
The data needs to be displayed in the form:
January 205
-record
-record
March 2015
-record
-record
Is there a way inside &tpl on the nth iteration to compare the date of the element of the current (n) and n-1 iterations to check whether the months of 2 neighboring articles?
