How to disable dialog popups in Pidgin Ubuntu?

Now it works like this:
If Pidgin is running but all windows are closed, then a new message opens a conversation window.
If the chat window is already open but minimized, a pop-up message (libnotify) appears and the tray icon changes color to indicate that there are unread messages.
