How to determine if an HDMI port is live?

Didn't gobble up anything good. A friend's video card (gtx 1060 6gb), hdmi was connected (1 monitor), he (hot) connected the second one via the hdmi-(dvi-d or vga) adapter. Could not get clarification), there were no sparks / smokes. Now only the dvi-d port on the video card works. Any thoughts? I would be very grateful. Windows 10, drivers 416.34
