How to defeat Midnight Commander blinking in Terminal.app?

On some hostings, when working via SSH in the native Mac terminal Midnight Commander, off-color + pseudo-graphics blinks. What to do?
On one of the hostings, I defeated the problem with an illogical selection of combinations of the "declare terminal as" setting of the app itself + setting the TERM environment variable on the host + the color_terminals task in .mc/ini.

I would say that you need to rebuild mc with a hose (slang instead of ncurses).

Found myself in a similar situation. Everything was solved exclusively through $TERM. And the Makovsky terminal does not understand why “256” is there. After adding TERM="xterm-color" to .profile, everything worked.
