How to deal with Ddos attacks on VDS?
Hello!
Today there was a DDoS attack on the site for an hour or more. I wrote to the hosters, they replied - "Apparently, the site is under attack. As you can see below, the site is connected from different IP addresses, entire subnets, 1 request each"
And they advised to connect free CloudFlare. Now the attack has passed, and the site opens normally, but in the future, it is clear that this may occur again! How to be better in this situation? I take a dedicated server on fastvps.ru

Effectively - no way. It will not work to protect against serious ddos on vds (and the hoster will cut it down earlier).
Schoolchildren can be fought back using the fail2ban rule set or any other empirical method during the attack.
apparently shit school-level attack
optimize the site so that it can keep it online
