How to create a report in Word for a third party program?

The organization purchased a set of programs for the organization of the educational process. The principle of formation of reports - is terrible. A .doc file is created with its own formatting and named text fields from the Developer tab. A query to the database (MS SQL 2005) is inserted into the comment to the file!!!!!!! When a report is called from the program, the created file with the data already filled in is opened.
Further more pain .... You need to pull a lot of information and the whole request stupidly does not fit in the comment field to the file, besides, there is no way to pull up images. The leader says to pull out only id by request, and then work through macros. But there is neither time nor the slightest desire to study VBA and work with DAO.
In this connection, I have a question, maybe someone came across some kind of solution such as a "visual designer" for working with a database (indicated where to connect, the query itself and where to put the result of the selection) or is there any other alternative to creating reporting that I do not I know? Or maybe I just want too much and still have to delve into vba and work through it from the database?

@Kerman

Um... Have your colleagues heard anything about Crystal Reports? Or about the standard Microsoft ReportViewer (free)?
