How to create an icon for any application on the desktop in Linux Mint?

Open gedit and add

[Desktop Entry]
Name=
Comment=
GenericName=
Keywords=
Exec=
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=
Path=
Categories=
NoDisplay=false

fill in according to which application you need a shortcut for, save <application_name>.desktop and copy to the address /usr/share/applications/and the whole shortcut is created)

In cinnamon - right click on the desktop - Create new launcher. It's probably the same in other DEs.
