How to control the scanner remotely?

Is there a way from under Ubuntu to organize remote control of a scanner connected via USB to a PC running Windows?

In general, we managed to resolve the issue using the BlindScanner program, installed it as a server on a remote machine with Windows 8.1 and a scanner connected via USB. And as a client to my Ubuntu 14.04 machine. Works great, happy with the result, additional features please.

We put Virtualbox on Windu, Linux and SANE into it, forward the scanner there and you're done)
