How to connect JavaScript and Django?

Hello, I'm developing my own blog and I'm having a problem. I have articles and there is a 'Popular' button and when the button is clicked JavaScript does a little animation. So far, I don't know how to have JavaScript tell Django to find trending articles. Maybe a stupid question, sorry. I have a suggestion to use AJAX or a form. Thanks in advance.
